Time for some photos

Last weekend I managed to get out and take some photos with my new digital SLR (Canon 350D).

I went to a loch near home as the sun was setting with the intention to get some sunset shots reflected in the water. The water was lovely and still but the sunset was rubbish due to a large bank of cloud on the horizon.

I did get some tranquil/moody shots which also allowed me to experiment with HDR techniques. I did no editing in Photoshop and used all the default settings in Photomatix pro and I am really pleased with the results although I need to work on my focusing technique as the foreground interest is 'a bit soft'.

I have been reading up on hyperfocal distance (http://www.dofmaster.com/ )
and will print off one of the sample charts to aid me in making the foreground sharper.

  1. Really great landscapes and an amazing first attempt at HDR (not an easy technique). You've got a real natural talent for landscape compositions. I look forward to reading how you get on with hyperfocal distances!
